Chiang Chun-nan Takes Helm of CNA Board, Anne Hu Reappointed President

Taipei: The newly appointed board of the Central News Agency (CNA), led by Chairman Chiang Chun-nan, convened its first meeting on Wednesday and approved the reappointment of incumbent President Anne Hu.

According to Focus Taiwan, Chiang, 82, presided over the board meeting, following a handover ceremony where he received the official CNA seal from Lee Yung-te, who took office in July 2023, under the supervision of Executive Yuan Minister without Portfolio Ma Yung-chen.

The board meeting approved Chiang's reappointment of Hu as president, a role she has held since October 2024 following her retirement from Formosa Television News (FTV).

Chiang noted that while the media once fought for press freedom, today's challenge is navigating an overwhelming flood of information, making trust and truth more important than ever. He highlighted CNA's vital role in this effort and expressed his fortune in returning to the news industry.

Hu, on the other hand, mentioned that CNA's text, photo, and video news output continues to grow. She proposed that the agency consider establishing a professional video archive to preserve footage and make it more accessible to domestic and international media.

The state-funded CNA is overseen by a 15-member board, whose members are appointed by the Premier of the Executive Yuan and serve three-year terms. Board members may be reappointed once, with reappointments limited to half the board.
