Beijing: China's strategic maneuvers in the Pacific, described as "gray zone warfare," are increasingly blurring the lines between peace and conflict. According to Deutsche Welle, Ray Powell, Executive Director of the SeaLight Foundation, detailed how China employs tactics such as coast guard patrols, maritime militia activity, the construction of artificial islands, and sovereignty missions to bolster its claims in the South China Sea and around Taiwan. These actions have prompted security concerns, particularly for Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines, as China's activities extend beyond the First Island Chain. Powell highlighted that commercial vessels face growing challenges due to China's assertive maritime actions. In response, regional partners are enhancing their defense cooperation, reflecting the rising tension and the need for a coordinated strategy to address the evolving security landscape in the Pacific.
