Kinmen: A Chinese man was detained by immigration officials in Kinmen on Thursday after waving a People’s Republic of China flag and distributing pro-unification flyers inside the county government building. At around 3 p.m. Thursday, immigration authorities deported the man from Kinmen by boat.
According to Focus Taiwan, the National Immigration Agency’s special operation brigade in Kinmen reported that the man, surnamed Lu, arrived on the outlying island by ferry and is being questioned about his motives for entering Taiwan. If Lu is found to have violated the terms of his entry permit, he will be deported under the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, the agency stated.
A security guard surnamed Wu, who witnessed the incident, informed Focus Taiwan that the man entered the building around 9 a.m., carrying a flag that had the Republic of China flag (Taiwan) on one side and the People’s Republic of China on the other. Lu then began distributing flyers that advocated “unification with Taiwan.” Wu mentioned that he and county government staff stopped the man, and police were called when he attempted to leave. The man was reportedly unconcerned about police involvement, stating he would “at most be fined.” Wu noted that the incident was peaceful and unlike anything seen before.
