CORONAVIRUS/More Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines arrive in Taiwan

A new shipment of Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT) COVID-19 vaccines arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport early Friday morning, the 10th delivery Taiwan has received.

The vaccines arrived in Taiwan on China Airlines flight CI-62, which took off from Germany’s Frankfurt Airport Thursday and landed in Taoyuan at 6:19 a.m.

Airport personnel said they believed there to be around 910,300 doses in the shipment, but added that they were not certain and would have to wait for an announcement from the Central Epidemic Command Center for a precise figure.

The new delivery is part of 15 million Pfizer-BNT doses ordered by Hon Hai Precision Co.’s YongLin Charity; Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.; and the Tzu Chi Foundation, a Buddhist humanitarian organization. The buyers have said they will donate all the doses to the government for distribution.

Taiwan also received 902,100 doses of the Pfizer-BNT vaccine on Thursday.

As of Thursday, Taiwan has received over 6.83 million Pfizer-BNT doses and more than 25.4 million doses of other COVID-19 vaccines from overseas, according to CECC data.
