CORONAVIRUS/Sixth batch of Japan-donated COVID-19 vaccine doses arrive in Taiwan

A sixth shipment of COVID-19 vaccines donated by Japan to Taiwan, consisting of 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday.

The shipment was delivered via Japan Airlines flight JL-6729, which touched down at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 9:49 a.m.

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi had announced the vaccine donation at a press event on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s donation brings the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses donated by Tokyo to Taipei to 4.2 million, the most doses donated to Taiwan by any country.

It first donated 1.24 million AZ vaccine doses to Taiwan on June 4, followed by 1.13 million doses on July 8, 970,000 doses on July 15, 64,000 doses on Sept. 7, and 500,000 doses on Sept. 14.

To date, roughly 55 percent of all COVID-19 vaccines received by Taiwan have been donated by foreign countries or private interests within Taiwan.
