CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 33,184 new COVID-19 cases, 53 deaths

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 33,184 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, all but 68 of which were domestically transmitted, and 53 deaths from the disease.

The deceased ranged in age from their 30s to their 90s. All but three had underlying health issues, and 28 had not received any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, the CECC said.

The 33,184 cases were 17.7 percent lower than last Wednesday, CECC data shows. Case numbers are often compared on a week-by-week basis because they tend to be lower on weekends and Mondays than on other days.

Meanwhile, the CECC reported 110 new cases classified as moderate and 58 as severe, including one new severe case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) involving a 5-year-old girl who is currently recovering in a general hospital ward.
