CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 56 new COVID-19 cases, including 9 domestic

Taiwan reported 56 new COVID-19 cases — nine domestically transmitted infections and 47 that originated abroad — and no new deaths from the disease on Monday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Seven of the new domestic cases were in Taoyuan, and one each in New Taipei and Tainan. They were all related to previously reported cases, the CECC said.

Three of the individuals had received either two or three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, one had received one dose, and the other five were unvaccinated — four of them children under the age of 10 years, according to the CECC.

In addition to the domestic cases, Taiwan also reported 47 imported cases on Monday, 35 of them travelers who tested positive on arrival in Taiwan. The CECC did not release any information regarding the vaccination status of the imported cases.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 20,489 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,435 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported Monday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 853.
