DPR Commission IX pursues synergy among labor stakeholders

Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has expressed its commitment to encouraging cooperation among labor groups and synergy between all labor stakeholders for advancing workers’ interests.”(The synergy is) with the Manpower Ministry, employers associations, the DPR RI’s Commission IX, as well as with counterpart offices in regions and the mass media,” said Deputy Chair of the commission Emanuel Melikades Laka Lena in a statement issued here on Monday. Commission IX, which has jurisdiction over healthcare, labor, and population affairs, is encouraging workers to work on developing themselves, either in their current vocation or in other aspects they wish to improve, he informed. The parliamentary commission is also encouraging workers to improve their skills and capabilities so they can become versatile and capable of working anywhere, the legislator added. “(We hope our workers) can occupy positions in various sectors in Indonesia and in other job potentials at the international level. (We also hope that) our migrant workers will be active in various countries to exhibit Indonesia’s migrant workers and manpower potentials,” Laka Lena stated. On International Workers Day, the legislator urged all parties to make the day a momentum to fight for workers’ interests and well-being to ensure that they enjoy the appropriate rights and protections at their workplaces. “They must also receive their welfare rights and decent income for their lives and their families’ lives,” he added.
