Taipei:The CTBC Brothers suffered another setback in the Taiwan Series with a 6-0 defeat to the Wei Chuan Dragons at Taipei Dome, bringing the Dragons to a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL).
According to Focus Taiwan, Dragons pitcher Andrew Gagnon was instrumental in the victory, allowing only one hit over seven scoreless innings while striking out five and issuing no walks. This performance builds on the Dragons' strong pitching throughout the series, which has seen the Brothers score just one run across three games.
The dominance of pitching has been a hallmark of this series. Taiwanese sabermetrics firm Stats Insight reported that the combined 18 hits through the first two games set a new record for the fewest in Taiwan Series history. The CTBC Brothers contributed eight of those hits, marking the third-lowest total for a team in the first two games of the series.
Following earlier strong performances by John Gant and Cristopher Mercedes, Gagnon kept the Brothers' offense at bay. The game remained scoreless until the seventh inning, when the Dragons capitalized on two outs to score four runs. The Dragons added two more runs in the ninth inning to seal their victory.
The CTBC Brothers are now in a precarious position, needing to win four consecutive games to capture the title, a feat never achieved from a 3-0 deficit in the Taiwan Series. Game 4 is scheduled for 635 p.m. on Wednesday at Taipei Dome.
