Taipei: Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Dwight Howard returned to Taiwan on Sunday to attend a charity event organized by the New Taipei Kings and The Asian Tournament (TAT). Speaking with reporters at the opening of the event at Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei, Howard expressed his joy in returning to Taiwan, describing it as "literally one of my favorite places in the world."

According to Focus Taiwan, Howard shared his fondness for Taiwan, noting the friendships he has cultivated, which he now considers akin to family. He also mentioned his fondness for local Taiwanese cuisine, specifically highlighting dishes such as chicken tail and General Tso's chicken. Upon his late-night arrival at his hotel, he had requested chicken tail as a special treat.

When asked about a potential return to professional basketball in Taiwan, Howard mentioned that while he had cherished his time playing there, his current priority is focusing on his family. However, he remains a promoter of the Taiwanese basketball scene, urging players to explore opportunities in the country.

The charity event aims to showcase Howard's passion for basketball while supporting the development of Taiwan's professional basketball leagues. It also seeks to attract top players to Taiwan. As part of the event, Howard will lead a TAT All-Star team in the "Kings Heart Classic" and serve as a guest commentator for the Kings' friendly match against the Macau Black Knights. Fans will also have the chance to meet Howard during a scheduled meet-and-greet session.

The Kings announced that part of the event's proceeds will be donated to PACK Taiwan, an organization dedicated to animal welfare, specifically focusing on improving shelter care and supporting the adoption of stray dogs.

Howard's connection to Taiwan grew after he joined the Taoyuan Leopards in the 2022-23 season, following his 18-season NBA career. He returned in July 2024 to play for the Taiwan Mustangs in the TAT, a team in which he holds an ownership stake. His affinity for Taiwan was also evident during his Hall of Fame induction speech in September 2025, where he made a special mention of the country.
