Ex-President Tsai Ing-wen to Deliver Keynote at Stanford Conference

Stanford:Former President Tsai Ing-wen will visit the United States next week to deliver a keynote speech at Stanford University, her office confirmed Friday.

According to Focus Taiwan, Tsai will attend Stanford DEFCON's 2026 Technology and National Security Conference on October 7, where she will deliver the opening keynote. Tsai's office spokesperson, Tsai Shu-ching, stated that she will discuss Taiwan's experience in critical technologies and semiconductor manufacturing, as well as efforts to strengthen international partnerships, defense, and national resilience.

The Stanford Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation announced the event on LinkedIn, expressing that it was "deeply honored" to welcome Tsai. Tsai, who served as Taiwan's president from 2016 to 2024 and was the country's first female president, led Taiwan through a complex security environment in the Indo-Pacific. Her administration also initiated significant economic, social, and institutional reforms, positioning Taiwan at the intersection of technology, economic security, democratic resilience, and strategic competition.

This will mark Tsai's first visit to the U.S. since leaving office in 2024. Additionally, Stanford's Hoover Institution has invited Tsai to speak on October 8 about democracy, resilience, and global security. This event will be jointly hosted by the Hoover Institution's Taiwan in the Indo-Pacific Region (TIPR) program and Stanford in Government, the university's oldest and largest nonpartisan public service and policy organization.
