Failure to Reach Consensus on No-Confidence Debate Timing Prompts Further Discussions

Bangkok:The Joint Coordinating Committee of the House of Representatives, consisting of whips from three political parties, failed to agree on the framework for an upcoming no-confidence debate, leading to the scheduling of another meeting for tomorrow.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting, chaired by Ms. Mallika Chiraphanvanich, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, was convened to determine the date and time allocation for a general debate and vote on a no-confidence motion against individual ministers. The meeting was held in accordance with Section 151 of the 2017 Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Representatives in attendance included Mr. Koravee Prisnanantakul from the Government Whip, Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu from the Opposition Whip, and Mr. Paradorn Prisnanantakul representing the Cabinet, among others. Despite over two hours of discussions, a consensus could not be reached due to differing opinions on the debate's duration. The opposition sought a five-day debate to adequately address issues concerning 18 ministers, while the government and Prime Minister proposed a three-day schedule from October 27 to 29, with a vote on October 30. The Prime Minister's overseas commitments from October 31 to November 1 further complicated the scheduling.

The meeting was adjourned, and a new meeting was scheduled for October 22, 2026, at 200 PM. Party whip representatives indicated they would attempt to finalize discussions today to present at tomorrow's meeting.
