Giants Fall to Mets 12-6 in Teng Kai-wei’s Starting Debut

New york: Teng Kai-wei took the mound in New York on Saturday as the starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants in his 2025 MLB season debut against the Mets. Teng pitched 3.1 innings and gave up five runs, marking a challenging start for the Taiwanese pitcher.

According to Focus Taiwan, Teng first allowed three runs in the bottom of the first inning after Pete Alonso of the Mets hit his 250th career home run, a three-run shot. Despite the rocky start, Teng managed to regain his composure and held the Mets scoreless during the second and third innings. The Giants took advantage of Mets pitcher Kodai Senga’s mistakes, leading the game 4-3 after the top of the fourth inning.

However, Teng struggled to maintain the momentum in the bottom of the fourth, allowing the Mets to reach first and second bases via fouls and stolen bases. Relieved by Matt Gage in the same inning, the two runners Teng had allowed scored, increasing his total allowed runs to five and shifting the score to 4-5 in favor of the Mets.

The Giants added two more runs in the final inning, but it was insufficient to overcome the Mets, who scored seven additional runs between the sixth and eighth innings. The game concluded after the ninth inning with the Mets breaking their four-game losing streak with a 12-6 victory.

Teng acknowledged post-game that he was not at his best during the bottom of the first inning, although he felt more effective starting in the second inning. Giants manager Bob Melvin mentioned that despite the loss, Teng might have future opportunities as a starting pitcher for the team.
