“Oh Love, You Are Much Greater Than I Imagined” (???????????) by Taiwanese band EggPlantEgg (???) won Song of the Year at the 33rd Golden Melody Awards Ceremony in Kaohsiung on Saturday.
“I don’t have much to say, except – we can all live peacefully by showing kindness to others,” the band’s guitarist Hsieh A-der (???) said while accepting the award.
“Oh Love, You Are Much Greater Than I Imagined” was the theme song for the film “Man In Love,” which ruled the box office in Taiwan for three consecutive weeks following its release in March 2021.
“Oh Love, You Are Much Greater Than I Imagined” was up against “Mountain Of Doom” by Ayugo Huang (???) and Sangpuy (???), “Dear Grandma” by Waa Wei (???), “Fragile” by Namewee (???) and Kimberley Chen (???), “Red Scarf” by WeiBird (???), “Bluebirds” Tanya Chua (???), “DEATH TRIP” by ØZI feat. Soft Lipa (??), and “Prototype” by LaLa Hsu (???).
EggPlantEgg rocked to prominence with the release of their debut studio album “Cartoon Character” in 2017, and the trio was a major winner at the 29th GMA in 2018, taking home Best New Artist and Best Taiwanese Album.
The 33rd Golden Melody Awards were held in Kaohsiung this year, the first time the southern port city has hosted the event in 17 years.
Founded in 1990, the Golden Melody Awards honors musical artists in the Chinese-speaking world, recognizing outstanding achievements from those working in the Mandarin, Taiwanese Hoklo, Hakka, and Indigenous music industries.
