Greater Taipei Cities to Announce Work and School Cancellations Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

Keelung: Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan cities will issue a decision at 8 p.m. on whether to cancel work and school on Tuesday due to forecasted heavy rain, Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang said Monday. Hsieh informed local media that, barring any urgent circumstances, the four Taipei-area cities would make the announcement jointly at the specified time.

According to Focus Taiwan, Keelung City is expected to receive between 300 millimeters and 490 mm of rain from 2 p.m. Monday through 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Keelung City government has regulations in place that allow for the cancellation of school and work if rain totals in mountainous or low-elevation areas are forecast to exceed 350 mm in a 24-hour period.
