Taipei: Guatemalan President Bernardo Ar©valo will travel to Taiwan in June on a state visit, during which he will meet with President Lai Ching-te, he announced Monday. At a press conference, Ar©valo emphasized that the trip aims to “boost the friendly collaborative ties with the great country” and advance bilateral projects related to Guatemala’s technology development.

According to Focus Taiwan, a semiconductor delegation consisting of 30 Guatemalans from various sectors, cities, and companies is currently visiting Taiwan and participating in a high-tech conference. This visit underscores the growing cooperation between the two nations in the field of technology.

Ar©valo also announced plans for Guatemala to host a conference in August. This event is intended to bring together Taiwanese tech leaders and businesses with Guatemalan officials and companies. The goal is to advance bilateral cooperation and assist Taiwanese high-tech businesses in establishing a presence in Guatemala.

The delegation accompanying President Ar©valo on his June visit to Taiwan will include key figures such as Economy Minister Gabriela Garca-Quinn, Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martnez, and First Lady Lucrecia Peinado. The invitation for this visit was extended by President Lai during a video conference following Ar©valo’s inauguration in January 2024, and reaffirmed by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung during a visit to Guatemala in October 2024.
