Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued extremely heavy rain advisories for Keelung, parts of New Taipei along the northern coast, and the northern half of Taipei, along with heavy rain advisories for other regions in northern Taiwan. According to Focus Taiwan, the "extremely heavy rain" warning for Taiwan's northern coast indicates a possibility of at least 200 mm of rainfall in 24 hours or 100 mm in three hours. Additionally, the CWA has issued "heavy rain" advisories for the southern half of Taipei, most of New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Yilan County. These advisories are defined as accumulated rainfall of at least 80 mm in 24 hours or 40 mm in one hour. Residents are advised to be cautious of lightning and strong gusts throughout the day, as stated by the CWA. The agency also warned of potential landslides, falling rocks, and sudden rises in river levels in mountainous areas across Taiwan, given the persistent rain over the past few days. Flooding in low-lying areas is also a concern. As of 10:40 a.m., weather stations in Jinshan and Shimen in New Taipei and Nuannuan and Qidu in Keelung City recorded more than 150 mm of rainfall since midnight Thursday, marking the highest totals across Taiwan in the nearly 11-hour period. Independent weather expert Wu Der-rong predicted that northern and eastern Taiwan will experience intermittent rain through Sunday, with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. However, weather conditions are expected to improve from next Monday to Thursday, particularly in southern Taiwan, as a large low-pressure system shifts east of Taiwan, bringing northeasterly winds. During this period, northern and eastern Taiwan will be mostly cloudy with occasional showers, while southwestern Taiwan will enjoy mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, offering respite from the recent rainy weather.
