Taipei: Heavy rain advisories have been issued across Taiwan as a weather front continues to bring precipitation to the country, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Saturday. A torrential rain advisory or an extremely heavy rain warning has been issued for Yunlin County, where strong convection associated with the weather system is expected to bring intense rainfall, the CWA said. According to Focus Taiwan, an extremely heavy rain warning indicates accumulated rainfall could exceed 200 millimeters within 24 hours or 100 mm within three hours, while a torrential rain warning means accumulated rainfall could exceed 350 mm within 24 hours or 200 mm within three hours. Meanwhile, an extremely heavy rain advisory or a heavy rain warning has been issued for Taichung City and Changhua and Nantou counties in central Taiwan, as well as Chiayi and Pingtung counties, Tainan and Kaohsiung cities, and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south. A heavy rain warning indicates accumulated rainfall could exceed 80 mm wi thin 24 hours. In addition, heavy rain advisories have been issued for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu cities, Hsinchu and Miaoli counties in the north, Chiayi City in the south, Yilan, Hualien and Taitung counties in the east, as well as outlying Penghu County. The advisories will remain in effect through early Saturday afternoon, the CWA said, adding that rainfall is expected to ease later in the day. Due to the downpours, daytime highs are forecast to range between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan Saturday, while temperatures in central and southern Taiwan are expected to reach 29-31 degrees, the CWA said. Weather conditions are expected to begin stabilizing on Sunday, the CWA said. With a Pacific high-pressure system forecast to strengthen next week, summer-like weather is likely to return, pushing daytime temperatures to between 30 and 34 degrees across Taiwan, according to the CWA.
