Heavy Rain Advisories Issued for Central and Southern Taiwan

Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has announced heavy rain advisories for Tuesday across central and southern Taiwan due to the effects of a low-pressure system. The advisory, which was issued at 9:40 a.m., affects Taichung, Chiayi, and Tainan cities, along with the counties of Nantou, Yunlin, and Pingtung.

According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA defines heavy rain as an accumulation of 80 millimeters or more within a 24-hour period or 40 millimeters or more in an hour. An extremely heavy rain advisory, indicating over 200 millimeters of rainfall in a day or more than 100 millimeters within a three-hour period, was also issued for Changhua and Chiayi counties, as well as Kaohsiung city.

While much of northern Taiwan is expected to experience cloudy to sunny skies during the day, brief showers could occur in parts of Greater Taipei and its mountainous areas in the afternoon. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 32-35 degrees Celsius nationwide, though Greater Taipei, Hualien, Taitung, and Kinmen County may experience temperatures exceeding 36 degrees.

Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong anticipates that warm weather with cloudy to sunny skies will continue across Taiwan from Wednesday to Saturday. From Sunday to Monday, brief showers or thunderstorms are predicted for Taiwan's mountainous regions in the afternoon, with potential rainfall in nearby low-lying areas as well.
