Highs of 36°C Expected in Northern and Eastern Taiwan Amid Heavy Rain Forecast for South: CWA

Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a heat advisory for parts of northern and eastern Taiwan, with temperatures anticipated to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius on Monday. Under a "yellow" heat alert, Taipei and New Taipei in the north, along with Hualien and Taitung counties in the east, are expected to experience these high temperatures.

According to Focus Taiwan, Taitung County might also encounter foehn winds, which are hot and dry downslope winds occurring in the lee of a mountain range. Daytime temperatures across most of Taiwan will generally range between 32 and 35 degrees, while nighttime lows are expected to drop to 25-28 degrees.

Meanwhile, the influence of southwesterly winds will lead to brief showers or thunderstorms south of Miaoli County. In southern Taiwan, the rain is predicted to be more extensive, with heavy downpours in certain areas and along the central mountain range regions.

The rain in central Taiwan and Miaoli is expected to be more sporadic, although the central mountain areas may experience heavy rainfall, as stated by the CWA. Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong noted that a frontal system is expected to reach Taiwan on Tuesday, bringing islandwide rain and cooler temperatures to the northern region.
