Tokyo: Hon Hai Research Institute (HHRI), the innovative research division of Taiwan’s leading manufacturing company Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., also known globally as Foxconn, has announced the unveiling of significant advancements in artificial intelligence server-related single-chip integrated circuit technology and high-performance power management solutions during an event in Japan in early June.
According to Focus Taiwan, these groundbreaking technologies have earned recognition at the 37th International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD), organized by IEEE ISPSD 2025, held from June 1-5 in Kumamoto. Hon Hai highlighted that the single-chip integrated circuit technology is the result of collaborative development efforts by HHRI’s Semiconductor Research Center Director Kuo Hao-chung, his colleague Hsiao Yi-kai, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University associate professor Wu Tien-li, professor Chen Po-hung, and National Central University associate professor Tu Chang-ching.
The new single-chip integrated circuit technology leverages the silicon carbide process platform from Hon Hai’s subsidiary, Hon Young Semiconductor Co., and is designed to surpass the performance limitations of traditional silicon-based circuits at high temperatures exceeding 150 degrees Celsius. This innovation is particularly suitable for sensing and control systems operating in extreme environments, providing more precise analog signal processing capabilities.
Additionally, Hon Hai’s recognized power management technology represents a joint effort between HHRI’s semiconductor team and the research teams led by professors Chen and Tu. Their collaboration resulted in an LLC resonant converter controller that integrates Burst Mode control and Soft-Start functions, reducing light load power consumption and enhancing system startup stability. The innovative Burst Mode control solution for LLC resonant converters aims to boost power efficiency and minimize output voltage ripple, while the Soft-Start system ensures smooth startup, preventing large current impacts on components.
In line with its strategic “3 plus 3” initiative, Hon Hai has been actively expanding its business focus on electric vehicles, robotics, and digital healthcare, driven by advancements in AI, semiconductors, and communication technologies.
