Hsieh and Liang Secure Gold in Women’s Doubles Tennis at Asian Games

Aichi-Nagoya:Hsieh Su-wei and Liang En-shuo clinched the gold medal in the women's tennis doubles at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking Taiwan's fifth gold in the competition.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Taiwanese duo triumphed over their compatriots Chan Hao-ching and Wu Fang-hsien with scores of 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center. This victory resulted in a gold-silver sweep for Taiwan in this event.

The match was decided in a tiebreak after each pair claimed a set, with Hsieh and Liang emerging victorious after nearly two hours. They scored 87 points compared to Chan and Wu's 73, and excelled in first-serve points, winning 59 percent against their opponents' 47 percent.

Hsieh, participating in her first Asian Games since 2014, added a third career gold to her accolades. Chan, on the other hand, was aiming for a second consecutive title after her victory in 2023 with her sister Latisha Chan.

In other events, Taiwan's golf team, featuring Tseng Ya-ni, Hsu Wei-ling, and Chien Pei-yun, secured a bronze medal. They achieved a total score of 550 at Kasugai Country Club, trailing China and India.

Taekwondo competitor Lin Wei-chun earned bronze in the women's 57-kilogram division, while Taiwan's softball team also took bronze, defeating the Philippines 12-2.

As of the latest update, Taiwan's medal tally stands at five golds, 17 silvers, and 33 bronzes.
