Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading automotive company, said Wednesday it signed a partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide electric mobility and related infrastructure support to the United Nations' food assistance agency. Under the partnership, Hyundai Motor plans to provide its Ioniq 5 electric vehicles (EVs) to major offices of the WFP worldwide and it will also donate funds to establish EV operating infrastructure in those countries. The funds will also be used in WFP's fossil fuel reduction program and be actively invested in the construction of EV charging and renewable energy systems worldwide. Hyundai Motor said it aims to assist in the transition of the U.N.'s operational vehicles, which are mostly powered by fossil fuels, to eco-friendly mobility solutions. Such effort is also intended to support the achievement of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), the company said. "By providing the Ioniq 5 and supporting necessary infrastructure, we aim to play a crucial role in addressing the global food crisis," Hyundai Motor President CEO Chang Jae-hoon said at a partnership signing ceremony held in Seoul.
