Hsinchu: The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) said Monday it has partnered with the National Palace Museum (NPM) to launch an exhibit featuring 48 classic artworks reimagined through AI-generated visuals.
According to Focus Taiwan, Cheng Jen-chieh, general director of ITRI’s Service Systems Technology Center, stated that the collaboration underscores the creative potential of generative AI and its integration with cultural heritage. The museum curated the works and incorporated AI into the storytelling to foster a dialogue between history and the present, rather than merely animating paintings.
ITRI revealed that it employed a proprietary video generation and optimization technology to transform the 48 works, including pieces by Taiwanese masters Chen Cheng-po and Kuo Hsueh-hu, into dynamic visuals. The in-house system uses a super-resolution algorithm to enhance image quality, ensuring that delicate brushstrokes and paint textures are faithfully reproduced in 8K.
The institute emphasized that the new approach offers visitors an immersive, interactive experience that blends art and technology. However, the exhibit will not be open to the public and will be held internally at the ITRI on Sept. 15, in celebration of the institute’s anniversary.
