SEOUL, Kia's Sorento SUV was the top-selling car in South Korea during the first half of 2024, according to industry data Tuesday. According to auto industry sales data, Sorento sold 49,588 units during the January-June period. Kia's Carnival minivan and Hyundai Motor's Santa Fe SUV followed, selling 44,868 units and 39,765 units, respectively. Kia's Sportage SUV and Hyundai's Porter pickup truck came in fourth and fifth place, selling 39,299 units and 38,561 units, respectively. The top five selling models during the period did not include a sedan, which marked a first since 2000. Hyundai's Grandeur and Avante sedans came in sixth and eighth place, moving 33,370 units and 27,323 units, respectively, while the remaining two models in the top 10 list -- Kia's Seltos and Hyundai's Tucson -- are also SUVs. Industry observers expect the trend of preferring SUVs to continue in the second half of the year, making it likely that the Sorento will become the best-selling vehicle for the first time this year.
