Jiangshan: Taiwanese athlete Kuo Hsing-chun secured two bronze medals in the women’s 59 kg division at the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China’s Zhejiang Province. Kuo achieved this feat on Sunday by lifting 95 kg in the snatch and 125 kg in the clean and jerk, accumulating a total of 220 kg to win bronze in both the clean and jerk and the total categories.
According to Focus Taiwan, Kuo successfully lifted 95 kg on her first attempt in the snatch but failed to lift 98 kg on her subsequent attempts, resulting in a fifth-place finish in that category. In the clean and jerk, she succeeded in lifting 120 kg on her first try but failed on her second attempt at 125 kg. She then successfully lifted 125 kg on her third attempt, which secured her the bronze medal in the clean and jerk and contributed to her total bronze medal.
Kuo, who at 31 years old was the oldest competitor among the eight athletes in the women’s 59 kg division, is still recovering from an injury. Her coach, Lin Ching-nung, mentioned that Kuo’s injury is about 80 percent healed. Lin indicated that Kuo is treating this tournament as part of her training, with primary goals set for the World Weightlifting Championships later this year and the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, next year.
This competition marked Kuo’s first appearance on the international stage since winning a bronze medal in the women’s 59 kg weight class at the Paris Olympics last August.
