Taipei: Taiwan’s MacKay Memorial Hospital on Monday announced the recent dispatch of a volunteer medical team on its fifth humanitarian mission to Ukraine, where it provided complimentary medical services across several cities.
According to Focus Taiwan, the mission, which took place from April 13-27, was led by Tsai Wei-de, the director of the International Medical Service Center at MacKay. The 11-member team comprised experts in cardiology, dentistry, oral surgery, emergency medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine.
During the two-week mission, the team established outpatient clinics offering cardiology care, cardiac ultrasound examinations, dental and oral surgery, and traditional Chinese medicine services at churches in Zviahel, Korosten, Medzhybizh, and Ternopil. MacKay noted that treatments like acupuncture and cupping therapy, rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, were particularly well-received.
Additionally, the medical professionals conducted three advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) courses at various Ukrainian hospitals and medical schools. Tsai also led a regional workshop in Khmelnytskyi, which was attended by over 100 physicians.
MacKay Memorial Hospital initiated its medical support to Ukraine in April 2022, shortly after the Russian invasion, and has since conducted four more missions.
