Hualien: A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan’s Hualien County at 7:32 p.m. Thursday, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries following the seismic event.
According to Focus Taiwan, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at sea, approximately 18.3 kilometers northeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 31.6 kilometers. The earthquake’s intensity, indicating the actual effect of the tremor, was recorded highest in Hualien County, where it measured 4 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale.
The temblor also registered an intensity of 3 in Yilan County, as stated by the CWA. The authorities continue to monitor the situation, although the initial reports suggest limited impact from the quake.
