Taipei, A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook northeastern Taiwan Monday evening, with no immediate damage or injuries reported, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.
The earthquake, which struck off the coast of Yilan County at 8:52 p.m., was centered 75.6 kilometers southeast of the Yilan County government offices and occurred at a depth of 66 km, the bureau’s Seismology Center said.
The intensity of the quake, which measures its actual effect, was highest in southern Yilan County, where it registered 3 on Taiwan’s 0-7 intensity scale in the areas of Wuta, Aohua and Nan-ao, according to the CWB data.
The intensity also registered 2 in nearby Hualien County, as well as the counties of Nantou and Miaoli, the data showed.
