Man Dies After Being Struck by Falling 200kg Art Piece in New Taipei

New taipei: A 19-year-old man tragically lost his life on Saturday after a 200-kilogram art piece fell and struck him on the head at a warehouse located in New Taipei's Wugu District. Police reported the incident, highlighting the risks involved in moving large objects.

According to Focus Taiwan, the accident took place at a corrugated metal warehouse on Wailiao Road. The victim, identified by his surname Yu, was assisting in the relocation of the sizable art piece, which measured 1.7 meters in height and 0.6 meters in width. For reasons yet to be determined, the art piece toppled over and hit Yu on the head.

Emergency services, including police and firefighters, received the call around noon. They discovered that a moving company had been engaged to transport the large artworks from the facility to Taipei. Upon arrival at the scene, the responders found Yu without vital signs. He was immediately taken to Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead at 3 p.m.

The police have informed Yu's family about the incident and have collected statements from the staff who were present at the time. The case is set to be forwarded to prosecutors and labor authorities for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
