Taichung: A man in Taichung has been sentenced to eight years and four months in prison after being found guilty of stabbing two neighbors during a dispute over loud television noise. The 24-year-old man, identified by his surname Lin, was convicted by the Taichung District Court on charges of attempted murder, receiving sentences of 7 years and 2 months and 6 years for each count, to be served concurrently.
According to Focus Taiwan, Lin confronted his 71-year-old neighbor, surnamed Chen, at her home in Wufeng District on October 16 of last year, complaining about the volume of her television. During the argument, a 71-year-old auto repair shop worker, surnamed Shih, attempted to intervene and was subsequently attacked by Lin.
Lin used a fruit knife to stab both Chen and Shih. Shih suffered a puncture wound to the chest and a hemothorax, while Chen sustained stab wounds to the back of her neck and forehead. Both victims were hospitalized but survived the attack.
Following the incident, Lin returned to his residence and contacted the police, who arrested him outside Chen's home and confiscated the weapon. Prosecutors noted that Lin had a prior conviction in 2023 for a similar knife attack on another neighbor, highlighting concerns over his pattern of violent behavior.
