Taipei: Taiwan's Supreme Court upheld prison sentences for a Maserati driver and his passenger involved in a 2021 road rage incident that left a college student in a coma. The court's decision on Thursday finalized the sentences, ensuring that the perpetrators will serve their time in prison.

According to Focus Taiwan, Li Wei-lin and Chen Ching-hao were sentenced to three years and 10 months each for aggravated assault and coercion. The incident occurred on November 7, 2021, when a college student surnamed Sung collided with a Maserati driven by Li while changing lanes on Taiwan Boulevard in Taichung.

Following the collision, the vehicles stopped, and Li, along with Chen and Chang Tun-liang, the son of the Maserati's owner, forcibly removed Sung from his car. The three then attacked Sung, resulting in his collapse and loss of consciousness. Chang further escalated the violence by kicking Sung in the head, causing a cerebral hemorrhage and leading to Sung's hospitalization and coma.

Chang was convicted of attempted murder and received a nine-year prison sentence. He later withdrew his appeal, solidifying his conviction and sentence.
