New taipei: New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih announced on Tuesday that the MRT Sanying Line will commence its full daily schedule, operating from 6 a.m. to midnight, starting on August 16. During this trial period, free rides will continue to be available for commuters. According to Focus Taiwan, the decision to extend the operating hours aims to provide the public with more opportunities to utilize the newly inaugurated metro line while allowing operators to assess its performance under typical conditions. Mayor Hou shared these details during a press conference. The Sanying Line, which began its trial operations on June 30, has been offering complimentary rides. Since August 1, the service has been running daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with trains departing every six to eight minutes depending on the time of day. New Taipei City Metro Corp. reported that the line recorded over 900,000 passenger trips between its launch and late July. The free trial service will continue through August 31. Subsequently, fares w ill be implemented based on the tiered pricing system used by the Taipei and New Taipei MRT networks, with costs ranging from NT$20 (US$0.63) to NT$35.
