Ministers Convene to Enhance Taiwan’s Cultural Diplomacy in Japan and Europe

New Taipei: Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Culture Minister Li Yuan held a meeting to discuss strategies for promoting "cultural diplomacy," focusing on the upcoming Expo 2025 in Japan and cultural initiatives in European countries.

According to Focus Taiwan, this marked the first instance of minister-level discussions between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Culture (MOC). The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Fran§ois Wu and Deputy Culture Minister Sue Wang. The discussions centered on leveraging the combined resources of the MOFA and MOC to enhance Taiwan's presence on the international stage.

A significant portion of the talks was dedicated to the upcoming Osaka World Expo, scheduled to take place from April to October. Minister Lin emphasized the importance of collaborating with allies to organize activities and artistic performances during the event in Osaka.

The ministries also focused on plans for 2025, particularly the National Palace Museum's upcoming exhibitions in the Czech Republic and France. These events will be utilized as opportunities to host cultural and artistic activities under the theme "Taiwan Culture Year," aimed at showcasing Taiwan's rich cultural heritage.

Past collaborations between MOFA and MOC include Taiwan's participation in the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad, where a Taiwan Pavilion was established at Parc de la Villette from July 27 to August 10. During this event, 22 Taiwanese performing art groups were featured, highlighting the nation's vibrant cultural scene.
