Taipei:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced it is collaborating with an investigation into allegations that a Taiwanese software company repackaged China-developed software and sold it to MOFA for use in Taiwan's overseas offices.
According to Focus Taiwan, during a routine security check in December 2025, a government security team discovered that a software package developed by Taiwan's Kun You Technology and used on MOFA's computers had components originally developed by China's Guangzhou Yixin Technology.
MOFA reviewed the records of all computers with the software and reported no unusual data transmissions in the past year. The ministry clarified that these computers, used for IT asset management, did not store confidential diplomatic information.
Following the discovery, MOFA reported the issue to the Ministry of Justice's Investigation Bureau and is now working with the bureau and its New Taipei City field division on the investigation.
This statement comes after investigators searched 10 locations related to three companies, including Kun You Technology, and questioned four individuals suspected of violating the Government Procurement Act. Prosecutors claim that Kun You Technology altered the user interface of IP-guard, a software by Guangzhou Yixin Technology, and marketed it as a Taiwanese product. The act prohibits procuring China-made IT products due to security concerns.
