Kaohsiung: As a part of its eighth round of dive tests, the Narwhal, Taiwan's first domestically built submarine, conducted torpedo launch trials, CSBC Corp., Taiwan, the vessel's primary contractor, said Thursday.
According to Focus Taiwan, CSBC announced in a news release that the submarine, also known as Hai Kun in Chinese, successfully fired two torpedoes on Wednesday. This event was part of the weapon launch verification phase of its ongoing sea acceptance tests. The purpose of this phase is to authenticate the Narwhal's combat capabilities, specifically focusing on areas such as combat system reconnaissance, analysis, and the torpedo system's launch and guidance.
A brief video released by CSBC depicted the Narwhal departing from the Port of Kaohsiung, accompanied by several support ships. To assist in the operation, helicopters were employed to mark the positions of the fired torpedoes. Subsequently, these munitions were recovered by the Navy's new Da Wu rescue and salvage ship.
