Nephew Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing in New Taipei

New Taipei:A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Taoyuan in connection with the fatal stabbing of his aunt in the Xinzhuang District of New Taipei. The incident took place on Sunday, and the suspect was apprehended the following day.

According to Focus Taiwan, the New Taipei City Police Department's Xinzhuang Precinct was alerted to the stabbing around 7 p.m. Sunday, after receiving a call about a disturbance at a residence on Yongan Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, a 59-year-old woman surnamed Lin, dead in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds to her neck and abdomen.

The woman's husband, who discovered the body after returning from work, informed the police that their nephew, surnamed Lee, had been living with them recently and had an argument with Lin earlier that day. Police investigations revealed that Lee, who was unemployed, often quarreled with the couple over his lifestyle and frequently requested money for alcohol and tobacco.

Surveillance footage tracked Lee's movements after leaving the home at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday. He was seen dining at a hot pot restaurant and then traveling to Taipei Main Station via the MRT. Lee's subsequent journey involved taking a train to Taoyuan Station and switching between various transportation modes to Fengming Station in New Taipei and Neili in Taoyuan, before eventually returning to Taoyuan Station, seemingly to evade detection.

Law enforcement officials arrested Lee around noon on Monday near Zhongshan Road in Taoyuan City's Taoyuan District. Preliminary investigations suggest that a confrontation on the day of the killing, where Lin allegedly bumped Lee with her shoulder, provoked him. Feeling insulted, Lee reportedly purchased a knife, returned home, and fatally attacked Lin.
