New Taipei Freight Train Derailment Causes Commuter Delays

Taipei: Passenger services between New Taipei’s Shuangxi and Sandiaoling stations are experiencing delays averaging 5-10 minutes following a partial freight train derailment on Monday morning.

According to Focus Taiwan, a news release from the state-owned Taiwan Railway Corp. (TRC) stated that two wheels on the rear car of its 7501 freight train derailed at 10:54 a.m. on the westbound K20+200 section. The incident has necessitated the use of a single track for trains traveling in both directions on the affected section, leading to delays.

The TRC announced that normal service is expected to resume by 6 p.m. Monday. All scheduling changes can be accessed on its website and mobile application. The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation into the incident, which fortunately did not result in any injuries.

Meanwhile, the Railway Police Bureau reported that an inspection of the scene revealed no evidence of external forces contributing to the derailment.
