New Taipei: New Taipei has introduced a new sightseeing bus service in the Ruifang area, aimed at boosting tourism ahead of the 2025 World Masters Games scheduled to be held in Greater Taipei. The service, which was launched on Sunday, offers unlimited daily rides for NT$49 (US$1.5), providing an economical and convenient travel option for tourists and residents alike.
According to Focus Taiwan, New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih announced during the launch ceremony that 35,000 commemorative transit cards have been issued for Bus No. 177. These cards will be offered free of charge to international athletes attending the World Masters Games, which are set to take place from May 17 to 30, 2025.
The new sightseeing bus is uniquely adorned with a capybara motif and provides access to popular attractions in the Ruifang area, including Jiufen Old Street, Jinguashi Gold Museum, and Shen’ao Fishing Port. Passengers can enjoy various discounts and perks as they explore these destinations. One notable attraction near the port is the “Capybara Rock,” named after the collapse of the original “Elephant Trunk Rock” arch into the sea last year.
The bus currently operates every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until May 16. During the World Masters Games, from May 17 to August 16, it will run daily to accommodate the influx of visitors, before reverting to weekend and public holiday service after the games.
Offering 10 round-trip services daily, the bus departs from Resident Square (Eastbound) between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the last return trip leaving the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology at 5:15 p.m., as stated by the city government. Visitors from downtown Taipei are advised to travel to Ruifang Station via Taiwan Railway or take buses 1061 or 1062 for a seamless connection.
For those interested in planning their visit, electronic tickets for specific dates can be reserved at https://funpass.travel.taipei/tour/y1D8. Passengers have the option to use TPass, electronic tickets, or cash for boarding, with transfer discounts and senior citizens’ cards also being accepted, as per the city government’s information.
