New Taipei Sanying MRT Line Set for Trial Operations Starting June 30

Taipei: The New Taipei City government announced that the Sanying MRT Line will officially begin its trial operations on June 30, offering free rides until August 31 for passengers using stored-value cards.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Sanying MRT Line is a medium-capacity metro system that serves the Sanxia and Yingge districts. In the release, New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih noted that the line underwent its final inspection on June 7 and received operating approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications on June 23. This approval allows the city government to finalize preparations for the line's launch.

During the two-month trial period, feedback will be collected to improve facilities and services. The Sanying MRT Line spans 14.29 kilometers and consists of 12 stations across Tucheng, Sanxia, and Yingge districts. It offers transfer connections to the Bannan Line at Dingpu Station and Taiwan Railway services at Yingge Station.

In a separate statement, New Taipei Metro Corp. (NTMC) announced that trains would run from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 30, marking the start of the trial period. Passengers using stored-value cards such as EasyCard, iPASS, and iCASH can travel for free, while others will need to purchase single-journey tickets.

Starting from the second day of trial operations, trains will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with peak intervals of six minutes and off-peak intervals of eight minutes. All services will cover the full length of the line, with frequency adjustments based on passenger demand.

The trial operation aims to conduct real-world load testing and gather passenger feedback. Contractors will use non-operating hours to make necessary adjustments based on this feedback and gradually extend service hours to better meet commuter needs, NTMC stated.

According to the metro company, after the trial period concludes, daily service on the Sanying MRT Line will run from 6 a.m. to midnight, aligning with the schedules of other metro lines.
