Amsterdam: Nymphia Wind, the first Taiwanese winner of the acclaimed reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race, made a dazzling appearance at the Amsterdam Canal Pride Parade on Saturday, Taiwan’s Representative Office in the Netherlands said Monday.
According to Focus Taiwan, Nymphia was dressed in an outfit inspired by a wedding bouquet and stood aboard the Asian Pride Boat under the theme “We Do,” drawing cheers from spectators lining the canals. The boat was decorated with heart-shaped balloons featuring messages celebrating Taiwan’s leadership in LGBTQ+ rights.
Her participation was part of a joint initiative by Taiwan’s Representative Office in the Netherlands, the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris, and Asian Pride Amsterdam. This initiative aimed to highlight Taiwan’s commitment to marriage equality and inclusive values.
The canal parade, a flagship event of Amsterdam Pride, was broadcast live by Dutch national broadcaster Avrotros. This broadcast brought Taiwan’s vibrant LGBTQ+ presence to audiences across the country.
Taiwan’s representative to the Netherlands, Tien Chung-kwang, stated that Taiwan’s progress on marriage equality is the result of years of effort by both government and civil society. He praised Nymphia Wind as a symbol of the nation’s freedom, creativity, and resilience.
