Outer Bands of Typhoon Jangmi Bring Showers to Northern Taiwan

Taipei: Brief showers were forecast for northern and northeastern Taiwan on Monday, caused by the outer bands of Typhoon Jangmi, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

According to Focus Taiwan, as of 8 a.m. on Monday, the eye of the storm was located about 590 kilometers east of Taipei, moving at 32 km per hour toward Okinawa. The CWA indicated that the outer bands of the typhoon were expected to bring sporadic showers to northern and northeastern parts of Taiwan on Monday.

The rest of Taiwan will experience cloudy weather on Monday, with brief localized afternoon thundershowers expected in mountainous areas, continuing into early Tuesday, the CWA reported. The Greater Taipei area and the Keelung north coast are also predicted to see sporadic showers through early Tuesday.

Meanwhile, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong noted that daytime highs across Taiwan are projected to rise to the mid-30s degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday, following the departure of Typhoon Jangmi. Mountainous areas are anticipated to experience afternoon showers on Wednesday due to a convective cloud system.

By Thursday, Wu forecasted that the rain is likely to extend to low-lying areas of Taiwan as the convective cloud system intensifies. He highlighted that Taiwan is expected to gradually enter the peak period of the plum rain season between Friday and next Wednesday, with a weather front converging with seasonal southwesterly winds to bring heavier rainfall across the country.
