Penghu: Penghu Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu has been medevaced to Kaohsiung for additional medical care after his heartbeat was restored.
According to Focus Taiwan, Chen, a 70-year-old member of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), lost his footing while descending stairs and hit his head on the ground during a public event in Penghu County. Following the incident, Chen's heart stopped and he lost consciousness, prompting his immediate transfer to the National Defense Medical University Tri-Service General Hospital Penghu Branch.
Tien Chiung-hsi, deputy superintendent of the Penghu hospital, informed the press that Chen's heartbeat and blood pressure stabilized at 3:31 p.m., although he remained unconscious. A full-body CT scan was conducted, ruling out acute heart disease but indicating irregular heartbeats as a possible cause. Tien emphasized that further exams are necessary to determine the exact cause of Chen's condition.
The decision to transfer Chen to Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital for further treatment at 6 p.m. was made by his family. Meanwhile, Chen Yun-ju, spokesperson for the Penghu County government, assured that Deputy Magistrate Lin Jie-shin will oversee government operations during Chen's recovery.
