Pingtung Mountain Trail Closure Extended Until 2025 Due to Rain Damage

Pingtung: The hiking trail on Beidawu Mountain in Pingtung County will remain closed until the end of 2025 due to the collapse of several sections of the trail following heavy rainfall, according to the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency’s Pingtung branch. Visitors who have already paid for mountain cabin reservations are eligible for a full refund, as stated by the Pingtung branch.

According to Focus Taiwan, the trail had been temporarily closed since July 28 due to torrential downpours and was originally scheduled to reopen on August 10. However, disaster assessments following recent rainfall revealed more significant damage, including collapses at various markers along the trail.

Additional damage includes a bridge at the 1.5 km marker affected by falling rocks, roadbed erosion at the 2.6 km marker, and collapsed sections of the access road. Given these conditions, the agency has decided to extend the trail closure until the end of 2025. Visitors can apply for a full refund through the mountain hut booking system.

While some trails under the Pingtung branch’s jurisdiction, such as Liuyishan Trail and Shimenshan Trail, have reopened, the western section of the Jinshuiyin Trail will remain closed pending road repairs. The agency advises people to avoid mountain activities due to persistent risks, including falling rocks and landslides, as soil moisture remains high in the area.
