Rainy Weather Forecasted for Northern Taiwan Due to Seasonal Winds

Taipei: Northern Taiwan will experience rainy weather on Monday as a seasonal northeasterly wind system brings increased moisture, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). Continuous rainfall is expected on the north coast of Keelung, the Greater Taipei area, and Yilan County due to the combined effects of these winds and an approaching cloud system from South China.

According to Focus Taiwan, the seasonal winds are also causing a drop in temperatures in northeastern and eastern Taiwan. The CWA forecasts temperatures ranging from 19 to 24 degrees Celsius in these regions on Monday. Early Monday morning, Sanshing Township in Yilan County recorded a low of 17.2 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest temperature in a low-lying area in Taiwan. In northern Taiwan, Shimen District in New Taipei and Yangmei District in Taoyuan recorded temperatures of 17.3 degrees and 17.6 degrees, respectively.

In contrast, central and southern Taiwan are less affected by the seasonal winds, with expected daytime highs of 27-31 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows of 21-23 degrees. The CWA has advised people to be cautious of the significant temperature gap between day and night.

Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong noted that another northeasterly wind system is anticipated to arrive on Wednesday, possibly bringing more moisture and localized rain in the north, Yilan, and Hualien counties in the east. However, the system is expected to weaken by Thursday, leading to drier and warmer weather throughout Taiwan until Sunday, though the large temperature gap between day and night will persist in central and southern regions.
