Taipei: A road collapse occurred at the intersection of Changchun Road and Lane 46 of Qingcheng Street in Taipei on Tuesday, with city authorities finding that it was caused by a dislodged water pipe.
According to Focus Taiwan, Taipei Public Works Department officials stated that after an inspection, personnel from the New Construction Office under the department concluded that the cause was a dislodged water pipe. This dislodgment allowed water to erode the soil beneath the road’s surface, leading to the collapse.
The officials confirmed that the incident is unrelated to any nearby construction projects. They assured that the issue with the dislodged water pipe is being addressed.
The department revealed that an initial inspection showed the sinkhole measured about 2 meters in length, 1 meter in width, and 1 meter in depth. There were no signs of further expansion, but as a safety precaution, the area was immediately cordoned off. Relevant city government departments were notified to investigate the situation.
