Taipei: Taiwan-based Starlux Airlines has announced the launch of a new Taichung-Kumamoto route set to begin on March 31. The airline will operate three round-trip flights per week to Japan's Kyushu region, providing the only direct service connecting central Taiwan and Kumamoto.
According to Focus Taiwan, the route will utilize Airbus A321neo aircraft, enhancing connectivity between the two regions. Starlux Airlines, a major international carrier in Taiwan, emphasized the strategic importance of Kumamoto as a transportation hub in Kyushu. The city is noted for its natural and cultural resources and plays a significant role in Japan's semiconductor industry.
Starlux currently offers flights from Taichung to several destinations, including Kobe, Okinawa, Takamatsu, Macau, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc Island. The airline is also planning to introduce additional routes from Taichung to Miyako Island on February 13 and to Tokyo on March 30.
