Taipei: A fire broke out at a residential building in Taichung’s Wuri District early Monday, killing a teenager and leaving her mother in critical condition. The blaze occurred in a two-story sheet-metal building on Wuguang Road.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Taichung Fire Bureau reported receiving a call about the fire at 2:15 a.m. Most of the flames and smoke originated from the building’s ground floor, and the fire was extinguished by 2:44 a.m. Two individuals were found on the upper floor of the building without signs of life and were immediately rushed to a hospital.
The fire bureau stated that one of the victims, a woman in her 50s, suffered second-degree burns on 80 percent of her body and is currently in critical condition at Chung Shan Medical University Hospital in Taichung. Her 17-year-old daughter, who sustained second-degree burns on 20 percent of her body, was later pronounced dead at the city’s Asia University Hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation, the bureau noted.
