Taichung Man Stabs Woman in Park, Fleeing onto Highway Before Being Hit by Car

Taichung: A man who repeatedly stabbed a woman in a Taichung park Thursday morning was taken into custody after he fled on foot onto National Freeway 1 and was hit by a car, authorities said. The Taichung Police Department’s Daya Precinct reported receiving a call at 8:11 a.m. about a knife attack on a woman in a park located on Longshan 2nd Street.

According to Focus Taiwan, emergency responders found the victim, a 63-year-old woman surnamed Lee, suffering from eight stab wounds to her neck, left arm, back, and forehead. Lee was immediately transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she underwent intubation and emergency surgery.

Preliminary investigations by police identified the attacker as a man surnamed Chang, who allegedly stabbed Lee following an argument. Local news sources suggested that Lee’s activities in the park, particularly her folk dance classes and the music volume, may have irritated Chang, leading to the violent incident.

After the attack, Chang fled the scene and ran onto the nearby National Freeway 1, where he was struck by a vehicle and sustained injuries, police confirmed. Multiple news outlets reported that Chang, 35, had recently posted a lengthy message on social media expressing grievances about the noise in the park and his impending 5.5-year prison sentence for growing marijuana. The post included threats to kill people and mentioned his desire to meet with family and friends, expressing a wish to “be a good person if there is a next life.”

Taichung police are continuing their investigation into the attack. Following the investigation, Chang will be transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of attempted murder. As of 3:30 p.m., there were no updates on the conditions of Lee or Chang.
