Taihan Cable and Solution Co., South Korea's second-biggest cable company, said Thursday it has received a 90 billion-won (US$68 million) high-voltage cable order in the United States. Taihan Cable has obtained the deal from LS Power Grid California to supply 320 kilovolt and 500kV high-voltage direct current transmission systems (HVDC) in northern California, the company said in a statement. Local demand for HVDCs is soaring in Silicon Valley and San Jose due to the development of artificial intelligence-related and other IT companies, it said. It is the first time for Taihan Cable to win an HVDC order in the U.S. All the other U.S. deals are high-voltage alternating current transmission systems.
